Post Operative Healing
Whether a patient’s surgery is cosmetic or reconstructive, Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is a natural therapeutic modality that can hyper-accelerate the healing process, and significantly shorten recovery time.
The treatment is safe and well-tolerated and can be easily conducted for most patients.
In fact, Hyperbaric Oxygen is reported to reduce recovery times by 33 to 50 percent, on average.
Following an intervention, patients potentially face post op challenges unique to plastic surgery.
Surgical stress response associated with Ischemia (lack of oxygen to the tissue) can impede tissue perfusion.
HBOT upregulates defense mechanisms that provide your body the necessary energy source and trigger to avert potential complications.
At the Biologic level, HBOT helps to prevent bacterial infection, reduces inflammation & promotes vascular endothelial growth factors.
Hyperbaric Oxygen presents an option that may speed healing while minimizing the effects of these challenges.
The high complication rate of these surgeries is attributable to blood supply disruption resulting in ischemia, necrosis, infection, wound dehiscence and excessive scarring.
HBOT improves this by inducing new blood vessel growth (angiogenesis).
What to expect during treatment:
Iconic Health & Hyperbarics is the Gold Standard of Hyperbaric Oxygen facilities in South Florida.
We offer the largest (most comfortable) monoplace chambers available anywhere in the world for a single user, the Perry Sigma 40 Plus. (Acrylic, Steel & Aluminum)
These are the same chambers the US Navy uses for it’s divers, and that Hospitals use for clinical patients.
Our chambers are equipped with an electronically amplified 2 way voice communication system that consists of an internally mounted speaker / microphone module.
Technologist is in constant observation & communication while descending to the desired depth. The pressure feels similar to the change in altitude in an aircraft. To equalize, patients simply swallow, yawn or hold their nose and blow.
We provide bottled water (the only item we allow inside the chamber as strict safety protocols are voraciously adhered to)
Once the desired depth is achieved, it simply feels as though you’re breathing ambient air while resting comfortably on cotton sheets, sleeping or watching your favorite movie or series!
We have all the streaming services: Netflix, HULU, Prime, HBO Max, Apple +, and more!
Many of our Post Op patients arrive with a spouse or companion to accompany them.
Iconic Health endeavors to provide a comfortable environment for those friends & family.
We have a private relaxation suite with recliners, entertainment & charging station.
Those accompanying our patients enjoy our FREE WIFI, watch a movie or series, rest or read a book while waiting. In short, while you’re visiting our medical clinic, ‘Our House is Your House’!
Hyperbaric supports healing BY:
Minimizing Pain & Discomfort
Promotes Anti Inflammatory Proteins
Improved Angiogenesis Enhancing Bloodflow to Tissue
Induces Collagen Production
Stimulates Neovascularization & Vasodilation
Reducing inflammation & swelling
With recent evidence based research studies, many surgeons now recommend pre and/or postoperative HBOT to their patients in order to enhance their healing, recovery and results.
A question that comes to us frequently is, what is the relative importance of 1-3 Hyperbaric sessions prior to a surgery.
A study from 2019 published below examined the effects of hyperbaric oxygen on wound healing as it has been found to have profound preconditioning effects, allowing the body to receive the intervention with far less risk. Here is a summary of the findings and the link posted below:
The study included 356 patients. Of them, 83 underwent HBOT preoperatively. Using preoperative HBOT, postoperative complications were significantly reduced from 32.6% (89 patients) to 8.4% (7 patients) Moreover, 17 (6.2%) patients in the comparison group and none in the HBOT group experienced necrosis. In the multivariate analysis, preoperative HBOT was an independent protective factor against postoperative complications. From the HBOT group, 53 patients had undergone 1 HBOT session, 14 patients had undergone 2 HBOT sessions, and 16 patients had undergone 3 HBOT sessions.
Overall, 96 patients from the comparison group (27%) experienced complications. The most frequent complication was infection, followed by seroma, hypertrophic scar, necrosis, dehiscence wound breakdown, hematoma, pulmonary embolism/deep vein thrombosis, and lymphedema. Of the 83 patients in the HBOT group, only 7 patients (8.4%) experienced complications as opposed to 89 patients (32.6%) in the comparison group. Necrosis, infection, and hypertrophic scars were only present in the comparison group and not in the HBOT group.
Our patients travel from all over the United States to seek out many of the wonderful surgeons located here in South Florida.
For many patients following a surgery, HBOT is not a requirement, it is an elective treatment that simply allows you, the patient, to TAKE CONTROL over the rate of recovery, reduce the risk of complications & scarring, and gets you back to your social circles in half the time!
Please note: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) has not been approved by the FDA for certain indications. Individual results may vary, and outcomes are not guaranteed. Consult with your healthcare provider to determine if HBOT is appropriate for your specific condition.
